Safety Signs

It is the responsibility of all business owners to ensure that their employees are safe while they are at work. This can be done by the posting of well-made safety signs wherever appropriate in the workplace. This begins with traffic signs on the roads approaching the property to control the flow of vehicles as they enter the parking areas assigned to workers. In dangerous areas specific safety signs must be displayed such as where there is the risk of slipping on wet floors, falling from raised walkways, or where there is inadequate room to accommodate an adult standing upright. It must also be ensured that inside of manufacturing facilities with heavy and hazardous machinery, employees use established hand signals for directing vehicles if hearing is diminished by noise.

Safety signs need to be hung wherever there are dangerous conditions and to remind employees to practice the safest procedures at all times. Employers must also post notifications of where fire extinguishers are located and others to indicate the emergency exits and the quickest routes to them. It is also incumbent that all safety signs be explained clearly and carefully to the workers, and the correct actions to be taken at each. Employees should be given as much data as possible before they operate equipment or handle dangerous substances. It is crucial that text or symbols be placed on all equipment and dangerous materials notifying workers of possible hazards. This and the need for personal protective clothing are both very important responsibilities of management.
